Our Dogs

Please check out our 'we need a home' to see the dogs we currently have for rehoming. We generally also have other dogs that are under assessment or undergoing medical treatment.

August 2024 - we have Thor - a one year old German Shepherd who has developed Pannus which is an immune mediated condition that effects the eyes- it is not painful if treated correctly. We have the condition under control and Thor would love a home of his own with people that really want a true rescue dog and will continue with his medication. Thor is a gorgeous boy- very nervous at first so will take a little getting used to but time and effort will pay off. Please call for any further information 01947 810787.

Lost, Stray and Found Dogs

Lost dogs, found dogs and stray dogs.

Please note that the first point of contact for lost and found dogs in this area is Scarborough Dog Warden who can be contacted through the main council switchboard 01723 232323. If lost dogs are brought into WDR out of hours when the dog warden or Cliff Top Kennels are not available, we will care for the dog until we can transfer it to the warden at the earliest opportunity. Arrangements for collecting the dog should be made with the warden. In the past we have willingly dealt with reuniting dogs directly but unfortunately we do not have the personnel or resources to do this and a couple of recent incidences have been unacceptable for our volunteers. Please see the attached note from the Councils website. Thank you for your understanding and please be assured that the dogs are our main concern.

We're a small Charity founded over 25 years ago. Registered Charity No. 1081121

Unfortunately we are not legally allowed to take in stray dogs off the street.
If you find a stray dog you should...

  • Firstly, check if it has any identification which may allow you to contact the owner to return it.
  • If not, walk around the neighbourhood asking if anyone recognises the dog and may know where it comes from.
  • If you are unable to find the owner you should contact the Scarborough council dog warden during normal office hours (8.30-5.00, Mon-Fri) on 01723 232535 or outside office hours on 01723 351558.

Dogs are taken in from the Dog Wardens throughout the area when

they are due to be destroyed. We also take dogs from private homes which cannot care for them any longer.

  • We operate a non - destruction policy
  • We are run purely by volunteers
  • This year we expect to rehome around 80 dogs

We cover the Whitby-Scarborough-Bridlington-Pickering-Malton area.
